Although official financial flows sent to the country by nationals abroad reached approximately 395 billion CFA francs in 2025, their overall impact on gross domestic product remains marginal compared to other international models, indicating a largely untapped potential.
This joint initiative, supported through a pilot program targeting diasporas established in France, the United States, and Canada, aims to address the data gap on financial behaviors and design tailored instruments. Speaking at these consultations, the BEAC Governor, Yvon Sana Bangui, emphasized the imperative need to leverage endogenous forces within the sub-region to accelerate economic transformation by diversifying financing sources beyond traditional channels.
This momentum echoes ambitious endeavors, such as the Diaspora for Development (Diasdev) project led by the Caisse des dépôts et consignations, which aims to mobilize nearly 2,000 billion CFA francs over the decade to finance national infrastructure.
For this financial transformation to materialize, discussions have highlighted the persistence of strong expectations expressed by the nation’s international community, foremost among them being the improvement of the business climate, land tenure security, and evolution of the legal framework around dual nationality. The ability to meet these aspirations will determine the success of this strategy aimed at transforming informal savings into a sustainable lever for productive investment.
