Talks led by Central Africa Zone Director Mamadou Sanon with Commissioner Ngabo Seli Mbogo foreshadow the arrival of a sixth commercial banking brand in a country with a banking rate of around 7% for a population estimated at 6 million inhabitants.
The approach is based on the unified approval mechanism, a regulatory framework allowing an already accredited institution within a member state to deploy a secondary network without establishing an autonomous subsidiary, subject to the approval of the Central African Banking Commission. The initiative follows in the footsteps of Afriland First Bank, which inaugurated its own Central African structure in June with an initial capital of 2.15 billion FCFA after obtaining regulatory approval in December 2025.
The offensive launched in Bangui consolidates the sub-regional base of the group founded by businessman Idrissa Nassa. Established in Chad since 2024, where the bank claims the third position in the local market, the institution is preparing to launch its Gabonese subsidiary in September 2026. Meanwhile, the approval file for Coris Bank International Cameroon, created with a share capital of 26 billion FCFA, is being examined by the monetary authorities with a view to starting activities planned between the end of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027.
