The work highlighted the recurrence of incidents recorded on national runways, documenting over 650 events of collision or animal presence on the period from January 2019 to June 2026. Concentrated largely on the international platforms of Douala and Yaoundé-Nsimalen, these collisions occur primarily during the critical phases of takeoff and landing, directly threatening aircraft integrity and the regularity of commercial rotations.


To counter this vulnerability, authorities now rely on detailed faunistic mappings drawn up by civil aviation. These studies allow precise identification of the migratory and sedentary species most threatening to navigation, such as the black kite, the cattle egret, or the African palm civet. The increase in these interactions necessitates going beyond the strictly airport framework to engage in coordinated action with local territorial authorities and riverside administrations, in order to neutralize animal attractiveness factors located in the immediate vicinity of the infrastructure.

By qualifying the mastery of animal risk as a categorical imperative for platform competitiveness and the safeguarding of human lives, the Transport Department has endorsed a set of recommendations focused on the pooling of expertise. 


The rigorous implementation of these preventive measures should further secure national airspace and guarantee optimal operating conditions for airlines serving the country's airports.
