This official signing extends an operational alliance formalized initially on March 11, 2019. The validated protocols integrate the sharing of industrial expertise in key sectors such as dredging engineering, optimization of trade flows, and improvement of management frameworks, all backed by the urban connectivity network supervised by Mathilde Virlois between Bordeaux Metropole and the Urban Community of Douala.

The deepening of the business partnership responds to the imperatives of modernizing handling infrastructure in line with global trade competitiveness standards. The cooperation prioritizes technical mastery of dredging, a highly budget-intensive activity for the Wouri estuary, where the annual volumes of sediments to be extracted condition the water depth and access for large-capacity vessels. The administrations of the two platforms plan to structure joint commercial marketing programs to capture new market shares and streamline the processing of containerized goods. The mutualization of skills also includes modules dedicated to managing city-port interfaces, a major urban planning challenge to integrate industrial facilities into the metropolitan fabric of Douala and Bordeaux.

The renewal of the technical pact is part of the deployment of the long-term investment plan for the Douala-Bonaberi port hub. Access to operational databases and environmental governance methods of the Grand Port Maritime de Bordeaux will accelerate the ecological transition of Cameroonian terminals. The technical staff exchange program will begin in the second half of the 2026 fiscal year to standardize security and port communication procedures. The alignment of PAD management tools with international standards provides an additional guarantee to secure investments from shipowners and consolidate the position of the Cameroonian port as a primary transit point for goods destined for landlocked countries in Central Africa.
