Under the CEMAC regulatory framework, remuneration on ring-fenced funds yielded 11.6 billion FCFA for MTN MoMo and 9.9 billion FCFA for Orange Money in 2025, based on respective outstanding amounts of 280 billion and 193 billion FCFA as of December 31, 2025. Analysis of deposit allocation reveals a high concentration of mobile money liquidity within a handful of credit institutions. For Orange Money, AFG Bank Cameroon stands as the primary custodian with 56.9 billion FCFA, followed by Ecobank Cameroon (39.6 billion) and BGFI Bank Cameroon (28.5 billion), these three entities pooling nearly 65% of the operator's ring-fenced resources. On the MTN MoMo side, outstanding funds are structured primarily around CCA Bank (58.5 billion FCFA), Afriland First Bank (53.9 billion), and Access Bank (49.3 billion).

These financial volumes represent major liquidity stakes for the commercial banking sector. By way of illustration, the 60.4 billion FCFA ring-fenced jointly by the two operators at Access Bank account for 22.2% of its total gross deposits at end-2025, while the 74.1 billion FCFA held at Ecobank represent 16.1% of its total deposit base. Negotiated terms between payment institutions and partner banks reveal particularly attractive financial yields. Remuneration rates on ring-fenced accounts range from 3% to 6.6% for Orange Money—the ceiling offered by BGFI Bank—and oscillate between 4.35% and 6.5% for MTN MoMo. With CEMAC regulations prohibiting operators from passing interest on to end-users of electronic money, the entirety of these financial margins remains recorded as revenue for the payment institutions.

This financial profitability fits within the structural growth of electronic transaction volumes in Cameroon, surpassing 32,667 billion FCFA in 2025 (17,176 billion for Orange Money and 15,491 billion for MTN MoMo). The report further highlights a client fund coverage ratio of 119% for Orange Money and 122% for MTN MoMo, reflecting a surplus of 81.4 billion FCFA in ring-fenced outstanding funds relative to strict user wallet balances.
