The Director General of Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel), Judith Yah Sunday Achidi, presented the technical roadmap aimed at transforming data into the foundation of public infrastructure. The public company, which recorded a turnover of 177.9 billion FCFA in 2023, an increase of 17.79%, relies on a workforce of nearly 4,000 employees to manage the fiber optic backbone network spanning over 12,000 kilometers across the country's 10 regions. The deployed commitments aim to consolidate a sovereign digital space capable of interconnecting administrative platforms and optimizing commercial exchanges. The presence at the event site was illustrated by the provision of free high-speed Wi-Fi access to the hundreds of participants during the 3-day conference, proof of the operational capacity of the national network manager.

The systematic interconnection of state platforms conditions the performance of dematerialized public services and the protection of sensitive information flows. The mutualization of storage capacities within local data centers prevents the leakage of economic information to servers hosted outside the continent.

The continued deployment of fiber optic cables along cross-border transit corridors guarantees access to digital services in rural and peri-urban areas. The profitability of state-owned transmission equipment consolidates the country's technological autonomy while reducing connection costs for the private sector.
