Exploitation of Oil and Gas Domain: SNH Begins Discussions with Murphy Oil Corporation
Following two days of intense negotiations held on August 20 and 21, 2026, at the headquarters of the Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures (SNH) in Yaoundé, Nathalie Moudiki, Advisor No. 2 and Vice-President of the Permanent Commission for Petroleum and Gas Contract Negotiation (CPNCPG), once again led, on behalf of the Managing Director, the discussions with Murphy Oil Corporation after those with Octavia.

At the conclusion of in-depth exchanges, the agreed clauses lay the groundwork for production-sharing contracts negotiated between the Republic of Cameroon and the U.S.-based operator. Such a rapprochement directly extends the competitive bidding process initiated in August 2025, targeting the concession of 9 free blocks located in the Douala-Kribi-Campo and Rio Del Rey maritime basins.
Mobilizing North American technological expertise in deepwater exploration offers the opportunity to test new high-potential geological reservoirs, capable of dynamizing the national mining assets portfolio.
As a reminder, on August 14, 2026, the SNH had already concluded a contract with Octavia Energy for the Bolongo exploration perimeter. Restarting drilling campaigns in territorial waters will enable the State to reverse the crude production deficit, while generating indispensable fiscal revenues for financing infrastructure projects.
Beyond strengthening proven reserves, the return of international investors confirms the competitiveness of the legal and fiscal framework governing Cameroon’s upstream domain. The arrival of this private capital will stimulate the local subcontracting industrial fabric, creating qualified employment opportunities in naval engineering, port logistics, and offshore maintenance in Douala as well as Kribi.
Ultimately, the joint mobilization of public actors and private partners secures hydrocarbon supply by sustaining foreign exchange inflows to the Public Treasury. The upcoming signing of research conventions will, to this effect, ensure a sustainable resumption of investments in the country’s upstream gas and oil sector.
