National Clean Cities Competition: Ayos, the Triumph of Local Governance Excellence
The announcement of the results of the National Clean Cities Competition crowns the commune of Ayos as the national champion. This honor is the achievement of one man: Paul Ndongo Biko'o, tireless architect of a model that now rivals major metropolises, earning a grant of 100,000,000 FCFA.

The top step of the podium in this 2026 edition of Cameroon’s cleanest cities goes to the commune of Ayos, whose consecration validates the effectiveness of local sanitation policies and illustrates a governance model focused on operational excellence. Just behind Ayos, the communes of Meyommessala and Garoua 2e, ranked second and tied for second, each receive an envelope of 70,000,000 CFA francs amid applause from UN agency representatives and high-ranking officials of the Republic.
Third place is taken by the commune of Nkambe, which receives a grant of 60,000,000 FCFA, while fourth place goes to the commune of Mokolo, benefiting from an envelope of 55,000,000 FCFA.
Further down the ranking, the commune of Bafoussam 2e secures fifth place with a check for 50,000,000 FCFA, while Douala 3e stands out in sixth place with a grant of 45,000,000 CFA francs, followed by the seventh prize awarded to the commune of Tiko, endowed with 40,000,000 CFA francs. Eighth place is held by the commune of Bankim, which receives 30,000,000 FCFA, and finally, the commune of Bertoua 1er closes this honor roll in ninth place, receiving an amount of 30,000,000 FCFA as well. Through these grants, the State reaffirms its commitment to financially support local executives in the sustainable optimization of their living environment.
