Embedded in the priorities of the 2020-2030 National Development Strategy (SND30), this intervention aims to streamline the flow of goods and people between the Littoral port hub and the Western agricultural basin, while strengthening cross-border trade connections.

Approved by the IsDB Board of Directors on May 19, 2025, during its session in Algiers, this agreement covers 92.35% of the overall project envelope, set at 150.82 billion FCFA (229.93 million euros). The Cameroonian public counterpart amounts to 11.53 billion FCFA, representing nearly 8% of the total investment. With a maturity of 20 years including a 5-year grace period, this project loan contributes to the restructuring of the infrastructure debt portfolio.

However, the precise budgetary sustainability of the commitment will depend on the subsequent clarification of amortization terms and additional financial conditions.

Anticipating the signing of the agreement, the Ministry of Public Works launched the contractor selection process under the advance procurement procedure authorized by the lender in July 2025. The rehabilitation program for the 218.9 km stretch is divided into three distinct lots: Lot 1: Bekoko–Penja (70 km), with works scheduled over 48 months; Lot 2: Penja–Nkam Bridge (77.7 km), also slated for a 48-month execution period; Lot 3: Nkam Bridge–Bandjoun (71.2 km), with completion planned on a 42-month timeline.

While the evaluation reports from construction firms, control missions, and audit firms were submitted for IsDB validation in September 2026, the effective start of works marks the operational launch of a major economic corridor for the competitiveness of the domestic market.
