The discussions focused on the operationalization of the CORAX infrastructure program, declined in its components 5 and 6, a project entirely funded by the European Union. The initiative aims to transform Central Africa's communication routes into integrated economic corridors, with a particular emphasis on reducing logistical costs and accelerating the transit of goods to landlocked countries in the hinterland.
The implementation of the trade facilitation mechanism responds to the need to remove structural barriers that penalize regional external trade competitiveness. The agreed priorities target a drastic reduction in border crossing times, the eradication of non-tariff barriers induced by administrative hassles, and the promotion of eco-responsible logistics. The project's specifications provide for a rationalization of supply chains to reduce the carbon footprint of road transport fleets. The support of local small and medium-sized logistics enterprises is also a pivot of the agreement, with the aim of integrating national providers into high-tech handling.
Institutional coordination is materialized by the immediate establishment of a mixed technical group. An operational monitoring body placed under the direct supervision of the ministry's technical advisor, the joint commission will bring together Cameroonian experts and Expertise France teams to validate each stage of the adjustments. The ministry's officials presented the customs and regulatory reforms already applied in the field, allowing for an assessment of the achievements in relation to the requirements of international donors. The approach advocated by the Cameroonian side is based on capitalizing on past investments, ensuring strict complementarity with other European financing instruments dedicated to African road networks.
